How to add a “click to call” button to your WordPress website.

As mobile web traffic continues to skyrocket and user attention spans continue to get shorter and shorter, it becomes increasingly more and more important for your website to make it quick and easy for potential customers and clients to connect with you.

Given most website visitors’ desire for instant gratification and quick results, having a “click to call” button on your website can make the difference between you making money and you not making money from a large segment of mobile internet users.

You all have most likely used the “click to call” button before. You are riding around (in the passenger seat hopefully) surfing the internet for a place to eat, a place to shop, or a service business to hire and you’ve found someone that that offers what you want and all you have to do is click a button on their website and it brings your phone dialer right up with the company’s phone number already plugged in.

At that point, all you have to do is click “call”. Super easy right? Well… setting this up on your WordPress website is super easy too and we’re going to show you how to do it.

1.) Adding a “click to call” button into a page, post, or widget in your WordPress website.

Here’s the code…

<a href=”tel:+18888888888″>Click-To-Call Button Text</a>

Test button here —> CALL NOW

Inside the first set of brackets, you’ll find the opening code necessary to tell the button to open the phone’s dialer and dial a specific number.

Replace our example number with your phone number. Make sure to include your country code (it’s 1 for the U.S.) followed by your phone number. Do not add spaces or dashes when entering your phone number.

In between the opening bracket (where the code for your phone number is, and where the closing bracket is (</a>) is where you put what you want the “click to call” button to say to your website visitors. You could use your actual phone number (ex. 1-888-888-8888) or you could have the button say “Call Now”.

Whatever you put between the opening bracket and the closing bracket is what the button will say.

Make sure you hit “publish” or “update” on your blog post or page and make sure you hit “save” on widgets. Then go test your “click to call” button on your phone and make sure it is working.

2.) Adding it to your WordPress website menu.

Log into your WordPress website and click APPEARANCES then click MENU.

Then chose the menu you would like to add the “click to call” button to.

Then choose custom links.

In the URL field, replace the “http://” with “tel:+18888888888” (using your actual phone number… don’t include the quotation marks in our example to the left)

And in the Link Text field, add whatever you would like the button to visibly say to the site visitor. You could use “Call Now”, “Call Us”, or simply use your phone number (ex. 1-888-888-8888). Then click “add to menu”.

Make sure you hit the “save button” before leaving the page. Then, go test out your new “click to call” menu button on your phone to make sure it works.
